Allen Patterson, president and owner of Allen Patterson Residential is a son of the Sea Islands. His roots were planted almost three hundred years ago when his ancestor, Colonel John “Tuscarora Jack” Barnwell, received orders by the London Board of Trade to construct Fort King George along the Altamaha River to defend the province from invasion by the French and make South Carolina the southern shield of the British colonies in North America.
The building tradition began with the legendary colonel, is who revered as the founding father of Beaufort, and continues today with his descendant, Allen Patterson, who places emphasis on high quality construction that will be desired for many generations.
Allen Patterson’s father and grandfather ran successful construction companies, and for many years, Patterson was vice-president of Patterson Construction with his twin brother, Steve. In 2004, Allen Patterson started his own company, specializing in custom homes, which has since grown to include forty employees and three superintendents with projects all over Beaufort County.
The Allen Patterson Residential team takes great pride in attention to detail and superior craftsmanship. Custom trim and finishes, 10-foot ceilings and 8-foot doors are standard features for the construction company dedicated not only to building homes, but also lasting relationships with their trusted clients.
“I want to build houses that blend in to look like they’ve been there for one hundred years,” explains Patterson. “And, I want our clients to appreciate our commitment to quality utilizing cutting edge technology and tools.”
Patterson favors the Lowcountry style and neotraditional construction and values the opportunity to revitalize tracts within the downtown area, especially those with a water view.
“Buyers are looking for property with amenities within walking distance of downtown, all public and free. Many are downsizing and aren’t interested in the suburban master planned communities with costly regimes and homeowner association-supported extras,” says Patterson.
Patterson’s successful Midtown Square project was recognized in 2013 by Southern Living Magazine as the “Community Development of the Year.” He is a Master Builder of South Carolina, a NAHB Certified Green Professional and Certified Graduate Builder of the National Association of Home Builders. Additionally, Patterson served as the vice president of the local chapter of the Homebuilders Association for three years.
